More about Janice D. G.Hi from Coastal South Carolina!
The above picture was taken at Janice's parent's condo during her dad's 90th birthday celebration. Pictured left to right is her mom (Pauline), her sister (Joan), her dad (Paul--AKA "PED"), and Janice. Janice has a BS degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Masters in Library Science from University of South Carolina. She is currently an elementary school media specialist. She also spent four years as a commercial beekeeper in coastal South Carolina with her husband Dave who has kept bees for over 20 years pollinating millions of dollars worth of fruits and vegetables every summer. Dave has also retired from beekeeping, and is currently the Editor of The Weekly Observer in Hemingway. He is especially talented with photography where his favorite subject will always be nature and insect photography though he has become quite versatile with a variety of subjects including sports and others since he began writing for the paper. Janice has one married daughter, Joni, two grandsons, Jonathan and Wesley, and a granddaughter Erica. Together with Dave, Janice also has two step-sons and they have "adoped" a daughter, son-in-law and two more granddaughters. Janice and Dave were recipients of the "1996 Forgotten Pollinators Award" which provided them an all expenses paid trip to Tucson, AZ, to receive the award. Janice and Dave's 15 minutes of fame: here it is..... The author, Sue Monk Kidd, found their names and telephone number on a jar of honey they sold in Charleston about seven years ago and called to ask for an interview. Of course they agreed. Sue "picked their brains" and they were willing to share anything and everything they could think to tell her. They also gave her the URLs for their bee web pages. (www.pollinator.com and www.queenbeejan.com) Janice was recently asked to write an article about meeting the author for the Morning News in Florence, South Carolina. You can read the article here. |
